Took this photo last time I was in Melbourne. It was taken down at Elwood Beach which is about 8km south-east of the city hence the haze of pollution.

I managed to get to the beach in the nick of time before the sun set. This so called 'magic hour' (the first hour after sunrise and last before sunset) -when brilliant colours light up the sky- may only last a few minutes at its most dramatic, so you've really got to make sure you're there and set up. Easier in the evenings for me than 5 or 6 am.

A  photographer I admire who does morning magic hour well- if you love sun and surf especially is Eugene Tan. His Aquabumps blog where he photographs Bondi Beach every morning is an inspiration especially living in Sweden.
