John Fitzgerald’s new art exhibition: Presence of Place - The Great Ocean Road Series

If you happen to be in Melbourne, Australia from October 13 to 25th 2016, you are ‘cordially invited’ to drop in to the Prince Patrick Hotel (basically the outer CBD) and check out the latest exhibition of paintings inspired by The Great Ocean Road by my friend John Fitzgerald.

About the Paintings

The medium to large, abstract paintings – though still reading clearly as landscape, with an emphasis on atmospheric colour and the actual line of the coast – evoke the elemental forces and power present in this landscape.

If you don’t know it, it’s a geographical area at the bottom of mainland Australia, where Bass Strait and the Southern Ocean collide with the Otway Ranges -  the Great Ocean Road acting as a demarcation line: between two energies, two states.

Check it out or if you can’t get there, check out his website to view the paintings.

Presence of Place DL Invite

John Fitzgerald initially studied photography [fine arts], beginning in 1986, at Photography Studies College, Melbourne, and began painting in the year 2000. He has exhibited previously at Art In Motion Gallery, and also at the Prince Patrick Hotel in 2012,[The Otways Series].

He grew up in Torquay, and has an intimate knowledge of the Great Ocean Road, and a connectedness that has continued and remains vivid with ongoing visits and time spent in the area for the last nineteen years, whilst living in East Melbourne.
